Western Finland (Länsi-Suomen lääni) is a province of Finland.

Regions

Western Finland is divided into seven regions.

  • Central Finland (Keski-Suomi, Mellersta Finland)
  • Central Ostrobothnia (Keski-Pohjanmaa, Mellersta Österbotten)
  • Finland Proper (Varsinais-Suomi, Egentliga Finland)
  • Ostrobothnia (Pohjanmaa, Österbotten), the only mainland region with a slight Swedish-speaking majority
  • Pirkanmaa (Birkaland)
  • Satakunta (Satakunda)
  • Southern Ostrobothnia (Etelä-Pohjanmaa, Södra Österbotten)

  • Rauma (Raumo), beautifully preserved old town which is on the UNESCO world heritage list

  • Kangasala, home to famously beautiful lakes and ridges
  • Nokia, the former home of a certain rubber boot company that went high-tech
  • Närpes (Närpiö), tomato capital of Finland with their own special Swedish dialect
  • Salamajärvi National Park
