Val d'Isère is a famous ski resort and a commune located in the French Alps 5 km from the border with Italy, with a population (1999): 1,628. It is on the border of the Vanoise National Park created in 1963. Its famed Face du Bellevarde is a frequent locate of world cup downhill races and was the scene of the men's downhill race as part of the 1992 Winter Olympics.

Val d'Isère will host the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2009.
