Culture and History

Once the site of the most elegant residencial buildings in the city, República was devasteded by the exodus of downtown, which happened mostly on the 70s and 80s. Nowdays, it has been renovated as the whole historical central area. The streets between Praça da República and Largo do Arouche make up the oldest (in every sense) gay hot spot in town.
