Montreal - Outremont

Outremont, once its own town, was incorporated into Montreal in 2002. Located five minutes from downtown, it is a predominately residential area, home to well-known Québec artists and celebrities and to Montreal's Hasidic Jewish community. Outremont offers shopping and dining along popular Bernard and Laurier Streets.

The Outremont metro stop is on the Blue Line.

Buses to Montreal - Outremont

The 80 Parc runs through the Plateau up to Outremont. Get off at Bernard or Van Horne. The 160 Van Horne runs along Van Horne from the Rosemont metro, on the Orange Line. The 129 Cote Ste-Catherine runs from metro Place Des Arts downtown, crosses Outremont from South to West, passing near the Université de Montréal, H.E.C. Montréal and Brébeuf college and heading further to metro Cote Ste-Catherine.

The shopping is concentrated along Bernard Street, Laurier West, and scattered along Van Horne. In the summer, eating an ice cream at Le Bilboquet, located a the corner of Bernard and Outremont, is a must.

Splurge

• La Bete Humaine, 1637 avenue Van Horne(metro Outremont), ☎ 514 278-0001. Tue-Sat 5:30PM-2AM. Atmospheric modern tapas and wine bar built using recycled material. Dishes come in appetizer-sized "little bites" and "big bites" to share. Try the pierrade for two — a selection of thin-sliced meat and fish cooked on a hot rock on the table. The focus is on game meats, but there are options for vegetarians too. Wide selection of wines and local cheese. 

Montreal - Outremont nightlife, bars, clubs and pubs

A unique bar with emphasis on local products including homemade beers, ciders, and north American wines. On the food side, you will find tapas like platters prepared with fresh ingredients: fish and meat tartares, duck magret, Québec cheeses, rillete, foie-gras, the famous veal mini-burgers, and also vegetable dishes. Food is not necessarily of the quality one would expect for the price, however.$4 draft beer ($5.50 for pint), 5 to 8 prices on tap.

Accommodations are skimpy at best in this residential area.
