It is located at the site where the revolt of Maccabim started.

Modiin is also the name of a very young city located at the heart of the Modiin area. The first residents moved in around 1997. Currently (Dec 2006) after uniting with neighboring Maccabim-Reut it has about 65,000 residents. It has been planned to become the 4th largest city in Israel within a few years.
