Karoo
The Karoo is the semi-desert interior in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. The name is derived from one of the long gone Khoi-san languages and means dry plains.

Culture and History
The Karoo covers a large area of South Africa, but generally references to the Karoo is accepted to mean the Great Karoo in the Northern Cape. The full names are normally used when referring to the Western Cape portions of the Karoo, the Cape Karoo (also called Central Karoo) further south, beyond the Nuweveld Mountains and the Klein Karoo even further south between the Swartberge and the Garden Route.
