It's a popular tourist destination in the summer much because of the beaches Tylösand and Östra stranden. Most tourists come to visit the town in July and August. Halmstad is known for its nightlife, with many centrally located outside bars that open in the summer.

Flights and airtickets to Halmstad
There is an airport close to town with connections to Stockholm Arlanda airport. The service is run by the aircraft carrier Skyways offering a few trips a day. Alternatively, Malmö Sturup Airport and Gothenburg-Landvetter Airport are both within 2 hour's drive and an easy train journey to Halmstad and, for more international flights, Copenhagen (Kastrup) Airport is within 3 hours of Halmstad (via the Oresund bridge).
By train
It's possible to get to Halmstad by train with SJ from the south with the Malmö-line, from the north from the Göteborg-line or from the east.
Buses to Halmstad
There are also bus lines to Halmstad run by Swebus Express who has connections from most major cities in Sweden.
By car
The european road E6/E20 passes through Halmstad. Two other important roads to get there is national roads 25 and 26.

Halmstad attractions and sightseeing
- Halmstad slott [2] - a castle built by the Danish king Christian IV
- Fattighuset (the Poor House) [3] at Lilla Torg has various handicraft shops, a cafe, and a sports museum.
- Tropikcenter [4] (Strandgatan 19) has various cool tropical animals - green iguanas, lemurs, and the like.
- Look at nice old timberframe buildings, for instance close to S:t Nikolai kyrka (the church at Stora Torg).
Halmstad city tours
- Tylösand is a 7 km long beach and in July thousands of people flock there when the weather is fine. Tylösand is believed to be one of the best beaches in Sweden. Watersports like windsurfing and kite boarding are quite popular, and courses are available.
Halmstad souvenirs & shopping
Storgatan and Köpmansgatan, as well as nearby streets, give you various shopping opportunities.

Get out
- Radio Station Grimeton [8] - The world's only remaining long radio station of its kind is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Situated 10 km east of Varberg.
