Gorey is a town in north County_Wexford. It was originally a market town dating from the 17th century. It is now rapidly growing as it turns into a commuter town of Dublin, as the roads have improved over the years.

Gorey is located about 65km south of Dublin and some 60km north of Wexford.

Travel to Gorey - Visa Requirements

By Car

The N11 road passes through the town, connecting it to Arklow (County Wicklow) and Dublin to the North and to Enniscorthy and Wexford town to the south. During the summer months especially, expects delays of up to a hour entering the town from the Dublin side. It is probably similar from the Wexford side.

Note: A bypass is currently in the process of being built.

By Train

  • Gorey is also served by the Dublin to Rosslare railway service which operates a few times a day. See Irish Rail for further details.

Tours and Getting around Gorey

Gorey tourist attractions and sightseeing

  • Visit the seaside town of Courtown. There is a private bus running a regular service during the summer season. It can be reached along the R742 road that runs east of Gorey from the north end of the town near where Tesco is located.
  • Fr Murphy Centre in the village of Boolavogue a few miles south of Gorey
  • Kia Ora Mini Farm -located and sign posted off the Gorey to Courtown road.
  • Craanford Mills -This is an unique early 17th Century watermill just four miles from Gorey, off the Gorey - Carnew road.

Gorey city tours

  • Located about an hour's walk away from Gorey is the "Tara Hill" (274m) from which it is possible to overview most of the Gorey area.
  • Numerous golf clubs in the surrounding area.
  • Horse riding -at Ballycanew Riding Centre and other location
