Faya is a the largest city in northern Chad, the capital of Bourkou-Ennedi-Tibesti prefecture. Faya has a population of 9,867 (as of 1993). During the colonial era, this was renamed Largeau, while on independence it was initially known as Faya-Largeau. Due to the considerable underground water supply in the town. Agriculture is the main industry, while three lakes lie immediately north of Faya.
