Edam is a town in the Netherlands.

Culture and History

Edam is a town in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. It is located in the municipality of Edam-Volendam, some 20 km northeast of Amsterdam.

Historically a chartered town since 1357, thriving on trade and agriculture, it has nevertheless remained relatively small. The town has nowadays grown together with neighbouring Volendam. Its main claim to international fame is Edam cheese.

Flights and airtickets to Edam

The easiest way to get to Edam is to fly to Schiphol airport in Amsterdam. Schiphol is a major international airport and receives flights from nearly all destinations. The airport is 25 kilometers away from Edam. Public transport is very good in Holland and you can take the train and bus to get there. From the airport go to Amsterdam Centraal (Amsterdam central Station) by train or bus. The easiest and fastest way is by train, serviced by the NS (national railway) and take one of the following regional busses from Amsterdam CS serviced by Arriva -110, 112, 114,116,117 or 118

By train

There is no trainstation in Edam. However, you can travel by train to Amsterdam, Purmerend or Hoorn and take the bus to Edam. It takes around 20-45 minutes to get to Edam.

By car

The main road to Edam is via the N247

Buses to Edam

The public transport in quite good in Holland and most often on time. You will always find a schedule at every bus stop. From Amsterdam you can take the regional bus to Edam 110, 112, 114,116,117 or 118. From Purmerend you can take the 113 (to Volendam, but stops in Edam) and from Hoorn you can take the 114 (to Amsterdam, but stops in Edam)

By boat

Edam is situated on the IJsselmeer (IJssel lake) and has it's own harbour.

Edam is also very close to Volendam. In fact, they form one municipality.
