Tours & Getting around Dogubeyazit
You can walk to most places in this fairly small city.
Dogubeyazit attractions and sightseeing
- Ishak Pasa Sarayi is a palace 5 km outside the city. This ancient fortress/castle/mosque is stunningly beautiful, and is a must see when in Dougbeyazit. Try to go on a dry, sunny day. The old town is nearby.
Dogubeyazit city tours
- Climb Mount Ararat (5,137 metres/16,854 ft), on the border of Turkey and Iran, supposedly where Noah's Ark landed. Guides and vehicles are available in the Turkish town in Dogubeyazit; prices informally start at about 300 YTL for one person. The mountain is easy to climb (there is no need for crampons for much of the summer) but you may suffer from the high altitude; the guides have no idea about high altitude medicine and will not stop you if you insist on climbing - people have died. Some tour guides reportedly save on the permission to enter the mountain area and you may get into trouble with the army.
Important Note - All climbers must have climbing permissions in order to climb to mountain. It usually takes more than a month to get the permission. So if you are planning to climb, you need to apply for it before you get to Dogubeyazit.
- Go to the Hamam (past the Hotel Esfahan)

Dogubeyazit Restaurants: cheap, moderate and expensive
Try to get an Abdigor kebab. Note that some places will lie and say it is only available on Saturday. If you go on Saturday they will not have it.
Dogubeyazit nightlife, bars, clubs & pubs
- Cafe shop on Kermelsi Rd. in the center of Dogubeyazit
- Pure fruit juice shop, makes nice pure juice! Istanplak Avenue in eastern Dogubeyazit
Dogubeyazit cheap and luxurious hotels, youth hostels & lodging
Hotels are numerous but bad, there is no point paying more than about 10-15 YTL for a room as you will not have any benefit from it. Possibly there are some better ones outside the town. It is impossible to find a place in town with air-conditioning.
- Hotel Nuh has an impressive lobby area but shabby rooms.
- Hotel Esfahan has spacious rooms and a run down lobby area.
- Hotel Grand Derya is run down and has intermittent problems with breakfast.
- Hotel Urartu is reasonable (under 20 YTL) with friendly staff.
- Hotel Tahran is inexpensive at 10 YTL, with surprisingly clean bathrooms.
- Hotel Erzurum. 15 YTL for a single, has clean rooms with shared bathrooms
