Childress is a city in the North Central Plains of Texas.

Childress is on US 287 halfway between Amarillo and Wichita Falls. US 83 also passes through the town, connecting with Wellington to the north and Paducah and eventually Abilene to the south.

As Childress is a convenient stop between Dallas and Amarillo, there are a number of hotels along US287, within town referred to as Northwest Avenue F.

Get out
- Finch Ranch near Memphis, just a few miles northwest.
- Lake Childress and Baylor Lake are twin lakes 12 miles west of town which have camping, fishing, boating, and a playground.
- Copper Breaks State Park is about 40 miles southeast of here.
- Wellington, with its historic theater house, is about 30 miles north on Hwy 83.
