Beth Shean (also spelt Beth Shan, Bet Shean, Bet She'an, etc.) is a large town in northern Israel. Located in the Beth Shean Valley, part of the north Jordan Valley, Beth Shean lies completely below sea level.

Culture and History

Beth Shean is the regional center of Beth Shean Valley. Beth Shean has been inhabited since biblical times (there are several instances where it is mentioned in the bible). Today there are several archeological sites from different time periods.

Travel to Beth Shean - Visa Requirements

BY BUS: To get in from most cities by bus you will probably have to go to Afula first.

From Jerusalem: 961(egged) bus from the central bus station. 41 shekel. About 2 hours.

  • Bet She'an National Park [1] - located in the northern part of the modern city, preserves the extensive remains of the ancient city, both the Caananite and Egyptian city on the dramatic tel or high city-mound, and the extensive, well-preserved Romano-Byzantine city below. Extensively excavated and reconstructed since 1989, this antiquity site is one well worth visiting. Admission: adults NIS 23, children NIS 12; groups: adults NIS 19, children NIS 11. Telephone (06) 658-7189, guidance center: (06) 658-1913. Opening hours: April-September: 8:00-17:00, October-March: 8:00-16:00.

  • Bet She'an Flea Market

There is a Flea Market on Wednesdays which has many nice fruits and vegetables. It also has a small selection of cheap clothes.

Beth Shean city tours

You can rent one from many small shops for around 10 sheqel. They will set it up for you with the coal and tobacco, all you have to do is breathe in, fell the flavor and remember its one of the few things that both young adults and old men enjoy doing.
