Bay of Plenty

The Bay of Plenty [1] is a region on the north-east coast of the North Island of New Zealand. It is named for the large bay that stretches from East Cape to the Coromandel peninsula.

The southern and eastern part of this region overlies the Taupo Volcanic Zone. There are several Volcanoes in the region and geothermal activity is a significant tourist attraction.

While most visitors come to Rotorua for the thermal activity one activity that is unique is the ability to play a round of golf amongst the mud pools. The Rotorua golf course has a public course where for $NZ10 you can play 9 holes and atempt to avoid the mud pool hazards, a unique experience. The course is at the top of Fenton Street opposite Te Puea, the Maori Ats and Craft Institute and geyser.
